I was inspired to create this render after seeing aad345's Eyes of Fate here:

From what I could vaguely remember, I took a torus, made it into a outline of a petal shape, duplicated it with the Spin tool under the Edit Mode and then applied a Decimate modifier. After that, I then duplicated the modified torus object, spun it on its Z-axis and alt+S to Shrink/Flatten the 2nd object. Finally, I added a flat circle in the middle with a white Halo material to give the object the white glow in the center.
